Our commitment to a greener future

The University of Warwick Science Park is committed to playing its part in tackling the climate emergency. At this pivotal point of the park’s development, sustainability is considered in our activities.

A commitment to ESG

We’re tackling the sustainability challenges of our established 400,000+ sq ft estate, comprising of 20 to 40-year-old buildings. At every feasible opportunity, we’re enhancing energy performance and prioritising the value of embodied carbon.

For instance, rather than constructing a new building, we opt to refurbish buildings, minimising our environmental footprint by leveraging green energy solutions, solar PV installations, electrical vehicle charging schemes and using recycled materials.

For one of our refurbishments, we chose Cross-Laminated Timber for reduced carbon impact and enhanced energy efficiency. This material choice was instrumental in achieving the project’s ambitious targets of an EPC rating of B and BREEAM rating of Very Good.

Adopting more sustainable everyday practices

We’re making sustainability a part of our everyday. By taking a digital-first approach, we’ve reduced our paper use and waste and lowered energy consumption within our offices. We’ve also converted to 100% renewable green energy use in landlord-supplied energy.

10% Biodiversity Net Gain

We’re taking a more sympathetic approach to managing the landscaped environment of our science park, demonstrated by adopting a commitment to a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain, managed through commercially contracting the University of Warwick’s landscaping team.

Engaging our tenant community

To embody sustainability within our science park’s ethos, it is our ambition to convene a sustainability group involving our tenant businesses. This is exemplified by our support of the We Can Project which enables our community to recycle aluminium drink cans, whilst supporting a young social entrepreneur to raise funds for local food banks.

UKSPA 40th Anniversary Awards

We’re proud finalists in the Building Environmental Sustainability & Innovation category at the UKSPA Awards, recognising and celebrating the achievements of science parks, research campuses and innovation centres across the UK & beyond.

A sustainable future

At the University of Warwick Science Park, we are dedicated to creating environmentally responsible and economically viable solutions that not only address the needs of today but set a new benchmark for sustainable redevelopment.

Our focus extends beyond individual projects, fostering a culture of innovation and environmental awareness.
